Why?
If necessity is the mother of invention, surely desperation is the father.
Let’s face it, we’re in a recession. I studied very hard to earn my engineering degree only to find out it was not the recession proof career I thought it was. In late 2008 I tried the simple approach: monster, the employment office, etc while continuing to assist the pastry chef at Country Club in Macon. Getting nowhere (in engineering) fast.
So I decided to get out of the kitchen and take the recession to give back. Which lead me to Americorps at Oakland Technology Exchange West. A fantastic non-profit. Ironically started from retired IBM engineer. Go figure. They graciously offered part-time work as an adult instructor while I continue my search. After months of talking to family friends, searching Monster, Craig’s list, the paper and more I knew it was time for more drastic measures so I decided to register the domain “hire jasmine”. A site to chronicle my search for an engineering job while providing information of services I provide as a tutor, instructor, and kitchen helper.
Seems desperate? well maybe I am. There are masses of young grads looking for the job to jump-start their engineering career. Most of which are just as intelligent and hard-working as I am. However I have this creative drive and I come from a diverse background that I believe will soon come in handy for me and my future employer.
